On the morning of September 5th, the welcoming ceremony for the Class of 2025 international students was held in the auditorium on the first floor of the Annex Building of the Standardization Building. The event was attended by Lin Guoqiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Innovation Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Han Chouping, Dean of the International Education College; Fu Qinhui, Vice Dean; along with representatives from relevant departments, counsellors from the International Student Office, and over 300 new international students. The ceremony was presided over by Yan Yan, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Branch and Vice Dean.

In her welcome address, Han Chouping, Dean of the College of International Education, highlighted the unique appeal of the college as a platform for cultural exchange. Centering her speech around the theme “HOME,” Dean Han noted that the college brings together students from around the world, and this blend of diverse cultures provides a unique environment for each student's growth. She encouraged everyone to cherish this platform, respect one another, and learn together—seeking common ground amid differences and fostering understanding through communication—to jointly build a harmonious and progressive academic community.

Academician Lin Guoqiang shared with the international students his long-standing connection with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Focusing on the global perspective and modernization of TCM, he provided an in-depth analysis of its unique value and scientific significance. He encouraged the new students to examine TCM through an international lens, actively contribute to its modernization and global integration, and become bridges connecting tradition with modernity.

Undergraduate representative Zhou Zhiwei and master's student representative Chen Shihua delivered speeches, sharing their original aspirations for choosing Traditional Chinese Medicine and their visions for future studies. They expressed their commitment to treasuring this valuable learning opportunity, striving to acquire TCM knowledge and skills, and contributing to the global promotion of TCM culture.

During the orientation period, the college also organized a series of thematic lectures on safety education, anti-fraud awareness, and psychological adjustment to ensure that new students can quickly adapt to the academic and living environment in China. Staff from the Exit and Entry Administration of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau and the Zhangjiang Town Service Center for Foreign Nationals enhanced the students' safety awareness and self-protection skills through real-case analysis. Manager Zhang Yiyan from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) provided a detailed breakdown of common fraud schemes, reminding students to protect their personal information and avoid trusting unsolicited calls or messages.

Ms. He Shiwen from the Student Affairs Department guided the new students in self-exploration and understanding of others through interactive screen-based games and on-site discussions, helping them learn to build positive interpersonal relationships in a multicultural context and lay a solid psychological foundation for their future studies. The highly informative lecture offered the students a fresh perspective, marking the official start of a new life chapter for over 300 international newcomers.

Moving forward, the College of International Education will continue to support the growth of its international students. Empowered by dreams and a sense of mission, they will advance along the path of heritage innovation and scientific exploration, writing their own remarkable chapters.
